Hi, my name is April and I’m an ice cream addict. It’s true! If there is one dessert that I can’t get enough of, it would be ice cream. I enjoy a good soft-serve, but my favorite is from a carton straight from my freezer, slightly thawed so it’s extra smooth and creamy. This is a stark contract from my husband’s preference of having ice cream so cold that you practically have to chew through each bite! You can imagine my excitement when Turkey Hill asked me to try out their new all-natural ice cream. I’m more than happy to add ‘ice cream taster’ to my resume!
I had not heard of Turkey Hill Dairy up until this point, but they were born over 85 years ago in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The name “Turkey Hill” comes from the ridge on which the Dairy is located. The Susquehannock Native Americans called this ridge “Turkey Hill” for its reputation as a good hunting ground for turkeys.
It wasn’t until 1980 that they expanded into ice cream production and never looked back! Turkey Hill’s All-Natural Ice Cream line-up which they launched last year is made with only the simplest of ingredients, like milk, cream, sugar, and natural flavors. The vanilla flavor only has FOUR ingredients! The All-Natural line contains no artificial colors, no artificial flavoring, and no stabilizers. In many ways, it’s ice cream the way it used to be made when Turkey Hill first started, more than 80 years ago.
Circling back to the perfect way to serve ice cream, if you like a softer serve I would suggest leaving the container out of the freezer for 5-10 minutes before scooping. You won’t have to work as hard to get the perfect scoop out of the container and you’ll get creamier bites in your bowl! Honestly, I don’t like to work that hard to get my ice cream out of the container because I’m usually ready to eat it and often see my husband struggling to scoop his ice cream out of the container because he likes it super frozen! Nobody needs to work that hard for ice cream! Then again, if you want a bit of an arm workout before your ice cream you can try that method.
Here’s the good news for all of you: Turkey Hill is launching a sampling tour this summer so that you can taste their delicious ice cream in your own town! Their Good Mooed Tour is hitting cities from the East Coast to the Midwest (sorry California) this summer with their giant cow in tow! You can check their site for upcoming dates in your area here. This is your chance to sample their 20-flavor All Natural line-up including classics like Vanilla Bean and Belgian Style Chocolate, and fruit-infused favorites like Blueberry, Mango, and Blackberry Swirl.
