And I’m back….As promised, there will be a NYC recap later in this week. I had a great weekend of food and relaxation and some beautiful weather! I was out of the office last week, traveling for work. It’s always hard to get back into the swing of things after you live out of a suitcase and eat at restaurants for a week. But I’m managing, and I managed to make these delicious turkey burgers this week. If you’ve worked with turkey before, you know that you need to add a lot of flavor to the mix to make it taste good. This recipe is a great balance of flavor and a little bit of spice!
A few notes: I chose to omit the bacon and cheese from the recipe to keep it healthier. I used Jennie-O Extra Lean Ground Turkey to keep the fat content down. Since this is a lower fat content, I needed something to keep the meat together so I added 1 egg and a little bit of bread crumbs.
Chop up the garlic and veggies and put them into a bowl.
Combine the veggies and garlic with the meat, thyme, cilantro, parsley, cumin, hot pepper sauce and salt and pepper. I used a garlic pepper blend and some garlic salt. (Can you tell that I’m a fan of garlic?) This is also where I added in the egg and the bread crumbs…Don’t add too much or you’ll end up with really dry burgers! Form the meat into 4 equal patties and then drizzle with olive oil to coat. You can use a grill pan in the house but since I’m on a grilling spree, I used my outdoor grill for that extra smokey flavor.
This is where you have the option to top your burger with the bacon and/or cheese. Happy eating!
