Making Smart Choices For A Healthy New Year

When 2016 started I made a commitment to myself that I would try my hardest to become a healthier version of myself. I felt as though I was coming and going with a healthy lifestyle and it was time for a change for good. It can be quite difficult to stay on a healthy path given that I’m a food blogger. I like food. If I didn’t, then why would I be writing about it and photographing dishes all of the time? I like healthier meals but I also like to indulge so finding a balance has been a task and I’m finding little ways to make changes for the better.

I was finding it very difficult to get to the gym given the schedules of myself and my husband so we decided to purchase an indoor cycle and some weights to create a gym in our basement. I realize that this isn’t possible for everyone but I have found that it helps to motivate me to workout knowing that all I have to do is walk down a flight of stairs. The struggle comes in on those days where I just feel exhausted but I find that if I come home from work and instantly change into my workout clothes I’m more likely to get in a workout for that day. And a good workout. Have you ever noticed that your best workouts happen on the days that you don’t even feel like doing them?

In addition to working out more I have also been trying to cut out the sugars and turn more to wholesome goods such as goodnessknows® Snack Squares. Have you seen these before? You can find them in the checkout lanes at your local Walmart stores and they come in 3 delicious flavors: goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate, goodnessknows® Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate and goodnessknows® Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate. My favorite is the goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate. They are made with real fruit, dark chocolate, and whole nuts and come broken up into bite-sized portions within the packaging. They made a really great pre-workout power snack or are perfect for breakfast or post-workout. The sweet and salty combination of these helps to tackle my sweet tooth and fill me up in between meals.

If you’re like me and you’re trying to make healthier lifestyle choices here are some of my tips:

  • Incorporate more water into your every day and less sugary drinks.
  • Steer clear of refined foods and stick to whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and get plenty of protein!
  • Be more active! Go for a short walk over your lunch break or chase your kids around the house. Just 30 minutes of activity per day will go a long way!
  • Stop eating when you feel full. Most of us tend to overeat because the food is in front of us. Eat slowly and when your stomach says that it’s enough, it’s enough!
  • Have wholesome snacks such as goodnessknows® Snack Squares. They offer a sweet and salty alternative to a candy bar.

Nothing feels better than living a more wholesome lifestyle and by just making a few small changes to your every day routine can turn out big results. Since goodnessknows® would like to help you out with these small changes, they are currently running a sweepstakes where you can win one of 2 $500 gift cards!

2016 #TryALittleGoodness Sweepstakes

I encourage you to make some small changes to your every day life and try out goodnessknows® Snack Squares.

Stopping eating when you feel full is something I’m always talking to my son about, and eating slower so you notice when you’re getting full. Drinking more water is so important too! #client
