Let’s all take a minute to just talk about football. Can we at least admit that the only reason anyone watches football is because of the snacks involved? Or is that just me? Game Day in my house usually consists of meat and cheese platters, chips and dip, and probably some kind of candy.
In years past I have seen people create ‘Snack Stadiums’ which are really cool football stadiums created out of snacks. Amazing, right? Google it, it’s impressive. So this year I was super excited to be chosen as a player in the “MARS Big Game at Walmart” opportunity where I could create my very own Snack Stadium! After drawing up some initial snack stadium ideas and taking a trip to Walmart to get all of my snacks, I started out on what I think is a pretty impressive Snack Stadium featuring SNICKERS® Minis, Skittles®, Pepsi™ and Diet Pepsi™, TOSTISTOS Scoops, TOSTITOS® Medium Chunky Salsa, and some other tasty snack foods. Interested in making your own Snack Stadium? I’ve got some tips and tricks to get you through the process!
My Snack Stadium was pretty complex and you can certainly scale it down depending on how much space you have. You’ll want to collect cardboard and/or boxes, box cutter, duct tape, super glue and a pen or pencil to get your stadium set up. You can also use foil or plastic containers to line the stadium for your snacks if you don’t want to cut out individual cardboard pieces. For my stadium I chose to use a lot of individually packaged snacks for ease of display – you might want to consider doing the same for ease of setup.
1) Start with a general drawing and concept of how you’d like your stadium to look and decide on how large you would like it to be. Keep in mind the quantity and type of snacks you are planning to serve in order to decide on how many compartments you will require.
2) Gather the materials, which I mentioned above, and decide on a build location. I worked on my kitchen table to ensure that my snack stadium would fit on the table which I thought would be best for serving my guests. Create a platform for your stadium out of a large piece of cardboard and draw out a field on the center. While I created a custom size using cardboard and some aluminum foil, I recommend using a 13 x 9 baking sheet as the field so that you can fill it with dip and easily place it inside of the stadium.
3) You then want to start cutting out the pieces that will hold up your stadium’s upper level. I started by cutting supporting pieces or “ribs” that would allow me to have a two level stadium. Please review the pictures so you can see the shape of the “rib” pieces that you will need to hold up your stadium.
4) After all the rib pieces have been cut, tape them to the base of your stadium. After this step is complete, you are ready to add the “seating” areas where all of your snacks will be displayed. I chose to integrate the pillars of soda cans into my stadium to add to the design, but they also served as extra support to hold up my stadium.
5) Cut pieces of cardboard to fit on top of the support pieces, making sure to add extra tape to make the structure secure – then you are all set to start loading all those wonderful snacks into your stadium!
This project was both fun and rewarding, all of the guests couldn’t believe how cool it was to have a stadium filled with snacks for the game! I recommend that you head to Walmart and pick up all the supplies that you need to make your own snack stadium for your next big game.
