I know, I know…It’s been a slow week here at the blog. I returned from Memphis on Wednesday and have been busy ever since. I’m guessing most people are on vacation still anyway. I’ll have a full on Memphis post coming on Monday but in the mean time I figured I’d share with you some of the best fried chicken that I’ve ever had.
I’m not a huge fan of fried chicken but what else are you supposed to eat in the south?! Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken showed up in my Food Network restaurant search. It also showed up with some great reviews on Yelp.
The restaurant is small and definitely has a southern flair to it. Food is served up with a smile and a ‘thank you m’am’ from the friendly staff. I started with the fried pickles and ranch dipping sauce. I typically prefer a fried pickle chip but these were spears. Spears with the best coating I’ve ever had.
I followed that up with a 2-piece chicken meal served up with slaw and beans…and of course, white bread. I was a little nervous since the menu claimed the chicken was ‘hot and spicy’ and I didn’t want it to be too spicy. Thankfully the batter on the chicken was the perfect mixture of spices and just a hint of heat. Crispy, hot, delicious.
I certainly would recommend checking out Gus’s if you’re ever in the Memphis area. It seemed to be a social hot-spot for the locals and fried-chicken loving tourists.
